Seminar Confirms Positive Economic Outlook, Home Preference Trends

By: Alison Berry

I attended an interesting seminar this week at the Best Western here in Bozeman called the 2013 Economic Outlook, held by the University of Montana’s Bureau of Business and Economic Research. The discussion centered around next year’s economic outlook for the state of Montana. It’s an annual event  and it confirmed much of what we’ve been discussing at our office, and at community builders events, recently. Here are a few take-away points from the seminar

  • The economy is on the rebound; there is modest growth in most sectors with respect to employment and income.
  • Likewise, the housing market is coming back to life. In 2013, we can expect more home sales, with median prices rising slightly over last year’s figures.
  • People moving to the region prioritize amenities over careers. “It wasn’t the job at first, but the lifestyle,” was a typical response in a survey of why people choose to live and work in Montana.

Jason Bacaj wrote a story about it in the Bozeman Daily Chronicle… you can read that article here: http://www.bozemandailychronicle.com/business/article_c6b7598a-70ee-11e2-8f89-0019bb2963f4.html.
